Hi everyone,
You have been contacted because you are part of a community group which has worked alongside the Greens on issues in the community or on legislation in the parliament or perhaps because you are an individual who is concerned about this country's future. Consequently we thought that you would like to receive some real news about what the Greens are saying during this election campaign.
Sadly most mainstream media outlets focus on only two people - John Howard and Kevin Rudd and we get extensive reporting on everything that they say and do or even what they shouldn't have said or done! There is, therefore, little reporting on the excellent policy announcements by the Australian Greens Senators and Senate candidates.

Rachel’s work
www.rachelsiewert.org.au Rachel has been working very closely with various Indigenous groups on the growing number of problems affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. This has included the Close the Gap campaign, criticising the NT Intervention, highlighting successful community initiatives that need support and advocating for more community consultation, as well as addressing the problems associated with development of the Burrup peninsula and the need for a national plan to address the housing crisis.
The effects of climate change on agriculture has also been of grave concern to Rachel, who is insisting that more farm assistance money should be directed to helping farmers transition to climate resilient farming systems. With the desperate need to develop a strategy addressing both food security and the need to help our agricultural sector deal with climate change, she and Christine succeeded in getting a Senate Inquiry into the future of agriculture in a drying climate and she spoke out in Adelaide recently about the urgent need to deal with the crisis in the Murray Darling basin.
Rachel also launched the Greens’ Caring for Parents and Kids initiative this month, with particular focus on paid parental leave, accessible and affordable child care and achieving a sensible work/life balance.

Reconciliation finally back on the agenda? by Rachel Siewert
Last night John Howard yet again demonstrated his canny knack for pulling an issue out of the hat and setting a new political (and media) agenda. The big surprise for many of us was the choice of reconciliation … by proposing constitutional recognition for Australia’s first people. Continue Reading »
