SOULAVERSE #04: Funksploitation

It's time to unleash your darkest inhibitions and deepest fantasies as June's SOULAVERSE gets a little bit darker, a little bit dirtier and 100% balls out growling funk'n'roll with FUNKSPLOITATION. Enter the Funk Club Grindhouse and down the rabbit hole into a world of B Grade Cinema, blaxsploitation and burlesque of the night that will tantalise your every forbidden tastebuds.

Heading up the bill, Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls! Straight out of Perth, Western Australia comes an upside yo' head serving of heavy eclectic groove in the form of The Super Kool Awesome Machine! The S.K.A.M is a collaboration of MCs, two turntables, a "chocolate groove" bass player, a balls to the wall funky guitarist and breakbeatin' drummer. The common ground: the will to create an original sound that'll make you "let yo' god self just get wild", to quote Afrika Bambaataa.

In support following their highly anticipated debut LP release, Bat Country will bring their dark rocking grooves to the SOULAVERSE stage combining blues to funk to rock to electronica, casting a spell of aural mischief and improvised fun, all wrapped up in an energised live show that will test the booty shaking of even the most cosmic of booty shakers! They dare you, they double dare you to motherfucking see The Bat live now; they're waiting to destroy you!

Also joining the bill as a late addition is Dr. Preposterous. Covering the sonic grounds of all things funky, rock riddled, reggae bass'd to the concept of a sci-fi action-adventure erotic comedy, this is all of many sights not to be missed and an ideal addition to all funksploitation. They explain, the band were given a script, a few dodgy blueprints, a couple of rusty mics, one wheet-bix-box bass cab and they were on our way.

Keeping the decks toasted comes something a little bit different with Special Agent Super K filling the gaps with his fine selections of growling 70s and 80s B grade movie soundtracks of a rocking horn heavy plethora. Adem K, most well known from his days in 90s Casio wielding indie fuzz rock outfit Turnstyle, is a prominent veteran on the Perth and national music scenes and this is a rare and intimate moment to catch him in DJ mode.

In usual SOULAVERSE sunshine and celebration of everything of exploitative cinema comes a variety of B grade movies screened throughout the night with popcorn to keep you well feed and your eyes well teased by the deeply erotic notions of Noir Boudoir Burlesque who will open your hearts and minds to buried desires.

SOULAVERSE is all happening on the first Friday of every month after month, upstairs at The Funk Club so get on up to get down into one of the best nights out on the planet. As usual, fancy dress is encouraged so come as your favourite B Grade movie character for a guaranteed scorcher!
