The Herd
www.myspace.com/runningwiththeherd
The Herd have a reputation as one of the country’s best live acts. Completely selling out their last tour to Western Australia The Herd are certainly one of Australia’s major artists of this generation.
The Herd formed in 2000 when the collective behind the independent Sydney-based record label Elefant Traks decided to collaborate on a release rather than work as individual producers and MCs. The result, an unconventional set-up, they perform with two MCs, two singers, an acoustic and an electric guitar, bass, piano accordion, clarinet, laptops and MPC.
Between them members of The Herd have many other highly acclaimed solo albums: Unkle Ho – Roads to Roma (2004) and Circus Maximus (2007); Urthboy – Distant Sense of Random Menace (2004) and The Signal (2007); and Astronomy Class (featuring Ozi Batla) – Exit Strategy (2006).
Catch them headlining the Funk Club festival 2008 at Freo Arts Centre!
RUSS DEWBURY
www.myspace.com/russdewburymusic
... one of the most influential and, highly respected figures on the international dance music scene ...
Brighton based Dewbury is one of the top DJs on the circuit and has developed a substantial reputation as live music promoter, record compiler, broadcaster, composer/ producer and all - round musicologist. One of the original UK jazz DJs, Russ opened the Brighton Jazz Rooms in 1987. Stronger than ever in 2008, the Jazz Rooms has become one of the most successful sessions in club history. “a legendary affair that
all should attend” (Straight No Chaser Magazine). From this base Russ has performed at all of the top clubs worldwide and enjoys a hectic touring schedule.
Dewbury launched the Jazz Bop concept in Australia in 2004 with a Nationwide Tour featuring the Quantic Soul Orchestra and Alice Russell which received rave reviews. A second tour featuring the Quantic Soul Orchestra, Alice Russell, The Bamboos and DJ Mad Mats played to full houses across Australia in November 2005. Then a third tour featuring US based Breakestra is occurred November 2006 blowing funk fans minds across the nation!
Russ comes back to Perth for the Funk Club festival…Oh yeah!
Hermitude
www.myspace.com/hermitude
Hermitude formed in 2001 with the musical partnering of Blue Mountains lads Luke Dubs (Luke Dubber) and Elgusto (Angus Stuart). They’d performed in jazz and funk bands together since 1994. A long, fruitful union these lads have been creating world class music together for almost 15 years and are here in Perth to release yet another great release! Having played all over the world these guys are top notch, their most recent performance in Perth at its legendary Wave Rock festival where they were amongst many revellers as the favourite of the weekend! Check these guys out rocking the afterparty at the Railway Hotel.
"Hermitude are amazing. While the instrumental field is cluttered with great names from the jazzy sounds of Fat Jon, to the trip hop of DJ Krush or even the garage minimalism of Burial; Hermitude standout with their ability to combine all these styles into one seamless mixture." The Brag Magazine
Sunshine Brothers
www.myspace.com/sunshinebrothers
Having come back from the legendary Daptone Studios (home to Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings) earlier this year after recording their second album ‘Greenpoint’ The Sunshine Brothers have been going from strength to strength impressing crowds around the country! Catch them at this years Funk Club festival as the sun begins to go down…Perfect!
Nfa

Its been proven time, and time again that its N'fa's live show performance that continues to captivate crowds, and turn docile audiences into a frenzy of interactive receptors of N'fa's message, and positive energy.
As the frontman of the hugely successful 1200 Techniques, N'fa (formerly N’Famas) became one of strongest voices and faces in Australian hip hop, the group being one of the first hip hop outfits to make a serious impact on the local Top 40. The ARIA award-winning group were no strangers to success. They sold over 50,000 albums and captivated audiences with their edgy, raw performances. He will be in effect, fronting his live act for the festival afterparty in 2008!

Funk Club House Band
www.myspace.com/funkclubhouseband
The Funk Club House Band was formed in 2003 with the main aim of being “the face” of Funk Club, paying tribute to the funk/soul heroes of old whilst spreading the love and good times the music instils. Adopting the ethos of good fun, music to move to and playing to a crowd, the band began to progress rapidly covering all their favourite rare ‘old skool’ funk tunes, producing an exciting funk/jazz sound with visual appeal, but skating away from the traditional “funk” cover bands.
Having released a live compilation CD in 2005 with plans for an Album later this year The Funk Club House Band has supported bands such as The Waifs, Salmonella Dub, The Bamboos, Dexter, Kid Confucius and Bomba coupled with over 3 years as the resident house band at the Funk Club…some describe the Funk Club House Band as an institution unto itself.
Charlie Bucket
www.myspace.com/charliebucket
Charlie Bucket was born in Perth, WA and has dedicated himself to two simple things:
1. The music he loves
2. Having a party.
If it’s a party you want then Charlie Bucket is the guy! His mix-tapes have become local legend and he’s constant touring is quickly gaining fans whenever he plays, his infectious energy being soaked up wherever he travels
