James dela Cruz is regarded to be one of Australia's most original and respected DJ's to date and has the reputation of bringing down the house with his unique style of DJing- fusing fresh turntable elements along with an eclectic, but cohesive track selection: Turntable tricks, Hip hop, urban and dance feature throughout, as well as obscure records, Arabic, reggae and house. James appreciation for music is apparent in his DJ sets.

Starting out as a hip hop and funk DJ in the nineties, the predictability of the local scene caused James to seek out other avenues. In 1997, along with Dexter they formed The 2 minute needles, a successful turntable group that toured around Australia. His blistering DMC set in 98 and 99, where he became the state runner up, proved that he was no slouch.

It drew the attention of The Avalanches, whom he later joined as DJ/keyboards touring at length internationally to sold out venues and festivals, the band later receiving international acclaim.

James's DJ sets come straight at you from the heart, reflecting an unbridled passion for music and a keen enthusiasm to get the party started. Rather than sticking to any one style of music at any one time, James dips and dives backwards and forward across his extensive collection, putting together sets that are totally out there and 100% unique. His set is a plethora of feel good sounds... from lost showtunes and emotive fifties doo-wop, mid-eighties Bowie to New Wave New Yorkers The Strokes, to irie realness reggae and Lover's Rock, to beat juggling "Let's get it on".

James is a regular fixture on the Festival circuit in Australia (Splendour in the grass, Homebake, The Falls). He has also supported the likes of NERD, The Streets and Jurassic 5, Money Mark to Jimi Tenor, Spiderbait, Gerling and DJ Krush and DJ Craze.
